Clip the Fly Minder on your belt, pants pocket, or saftey belt. The Fly Line Minder should be on the left side for right handed casters and on the right side for left handed casters. The line holding part should be a few degrees above the horizontal depending on the positioning on the body.

With your stripping hand, pull line out from the reel and form large loops as if you were coiling rope. Leave the line hooked on the rod. It helps to use a line that hasn't spent all night in the cold car or has a lot of memory. Now, with your palm facing your body, place the line over the Fly Line Minder, unhook the fly and pull enough line out to start a cast, and then cast as usual.

There are two ways to strip the line in. First, start stripping in as usual, but pull the line over the Fly Line Minder and to the outside of your body. Drop the line and grab another section. Strip in and drop over the Fly Line Minder, over and drop, over and drop. Make the loops as large as possible. You can drop the line over on every other stripping action if desired. When you have stripped in enough line, cast as usual, using your stripping hand as a guide.

Another way to strip in the line is by forming large loops with every stripping action, and then place the line on the Fly Line Minder with the palm facing OUT, away from the body.

Now, you have just landed the big one, but in the heat of the battle didn't use the Fly Line Minder. Line is everywhere. In order to clear up the mess, grab the line as it comes out of the reel with your casting hand and place it on the grip. With your stripping hand, grab the line between the reel and your stripping hand, and start stripping in line as usual using either the coiling method or the over and drop method.

  (Using the hook remover)
Starting at the back of the Flyline Minder, slide your line between the two clothing clips, then down to the fly and the bend of the hook, keeping the line tight. One side of the holder will be close to the bend in the hook. Now quickly twist the other side over the back of the fly and the fish will be free without handling.
